Skyfall Reasearch

Skyfall is the 23rd movie of the popular series of action movies 'James Bond'. It was produced by EON Productions, which is the production company responsible for nearly all of the Bond films. It was distributed by MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The film stars famous actors Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes. The film has been marketed in a range of different ways, from billboards to perfume and from famous pop singers to mobile phone apps.

This is a billboard I spotted on the London Underground in order to promote the release of Skyfall. Billboards are a good way to promote films because of the wide range of demographics that travel on the undergroud. Although Skyfalls target audience is middle aged men, it may appeal to other individuals, who may see this marketing scheme on the way to work, college, uni etc. It is also a good idea as this way it may reach people who are unable to consume other promotion techniques. for example people may not get to TV advertisments (trailers, chat shows etc) because of busy life styles etc.

This is a Bus poster which I noticed on my way to college. This shares the same marketting strategy as the Tube billboard.

Official Skyfall Trailer

The trailer of the movie is shown on TV, between programmes, in order to get people who have been following the trilogy excited for the upcoming movie they have been waiting for. It gives them a sneak peak of what they can expect. It may also draw in some consumer’s attention who may not have been interested before. It is likely to be shown in the evenings around 7-10pm, on institutions like ITV1 that share a similar target audience demographic. It will show at these times in particular as it is the time that Middle Aged, Middle Class, men will be watching the TV, making the chances of them consuming it higher. Where as if they were to show it at 1 O’clock in the afternoon it is unlikely their target demographic will actually view it. It will show on ITV or 5* in particular because they have similar shows, which means the audience that are viewing similar shows may become interested in the movie they are promoting. It was released 3months before the film was released to the public by Sony Pictures and also appears on youtube.
Adele - Skyfall  < sound track for the film.

This is the soundtrack to the film, sung and co-written by popular British singer/songer writer, Adele. This is an example of Cross-Media convergance. This when two companies come together to release content from two platforms of media for one film. In this case it is a song. By Adele singing the song will encourage her fans to watch the film, resulting in a wider audience and more money for each company.
