Skyfall Reasearch

Skyfall is the 23rd movie of the popular series of action movies 'James Bond'. It was produced by EON Productions, which is the production company responsible for nearly all of the Bond films. It was distributed by MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The film stars famous actors Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes. The film has been marketed in a range of different ways, from billboards to perfume and from famous pop singers to mobile phone apps.

This is a billboard I spotted on the London Underground in order to promote the release of Skyfall. Billboards are a good way to promote films because of the wide range of demographics that travel on the undergroud. Although Skyfalls target audience is middle aged men, it may appeal to other individuals, who may see this marketing scheme on the way to work, college, uni etc. It is also a good idea as this way it may reach people who are unable to consume other promotion techniques. for example people may not get to TV advertisments (trailers, chat shows etc) because of busy life styles etc.

This is a Bus poster which I noticed on my way to college. This shares the same marketting strategy as the Tube billboard.

Official Skyfall Trailer

The trailer of the movie is shown on TV, between programmes, in order to get people who have been following the trilogy excited for the upcoming movie they have been waiting for. It gives them a sneak peak of what they can expect. It may also draw in some consumer’s attention who may not have been interested before. It is likely to be shown in the evenings around 7-10pm, on institutions like ITV1 that share a similar target audience demographic. It will show at these times in particular as it is the time that Middle Aged, Middle Class, men will be watching the TV, making the chances of them consuming it higher. Where as if they were to show it at 1 O’clock in the afternoon it is unlikely their target demographic will actually view it. It will show on ITV or 5* in particular because they have similar shows, which means the audience that are viewing similar shows may become interested in the movie they are promoting. It was released 3months before the film was released to the public by Sony Pictures and also appears on youtube.
Adele - Skyfall  < sound track for the film.

This is the soundtrack to the film, sung and co-written by popular British singer/songer writer, Adele. This is an example of Cross-Media convergance. This when two companies come together to release content from two platforms of media for one film. In this case it is a song. By Adele singing the song will encourage her fans to watch the film, resulting in a wider audience and more money for each company.

Film Industry - Sorry its late :'(

Production

The first thing anyone who is interested in making a film must do is to come up with the concept and ideas of what themes and ideas the film may incorporate which will help tell the story and write a script. Budding film producers may decide to carry a pen around with them in case an idea pops in to their head randomly so that they don’t forget it.

The next step to making a film will be to write a script. A script is a term used to describe a story, setting, and dialogue which is almost used as an instruction book in which actors and people working on the set of a film will use  to know what is going on while shooting and a way in which for actors to line their role and lines for their performance.

Once a script has been written a story board is needed. A story board is a series of rough sketches that will be sent off to professional companies in order to get funding and professional equipment needed for the making of your film. Examples of film companies are 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios.

Film crew and cast are obviously needed in order for your film to come together and make it successful. There are many different agencies and websites producers can use to find actors that suit roles of their films and well qualified crew members they may need. Auditions may be used to decide who will or will not get the role of a character.

A shooting script will also need to be prepared. A shooting script contains scenes placed in order of shooting, usually using technical language and/or drawings. A shooting script is essentially a script which breaks the film in to scenes, placed in order as to where and when they will be filmed. They can use sketches or photographs of locations. They may also include names of different types of shots e.g. medium shot.

Filming schedules may also be used for organisation purposes. A schedule will help keep track of progress and gives you control of day to day shooting of the film. You can allocate how much time you feel is needed for each shot, by looking at your storyboards and shooting script simultaneously.

Finally you will need to prepare equipment.  Equipment may vary depending on the type of film being shot. For example films such as Avatar use special effects and used a 3D camera to get the effects it did. Equipment also depends on the budget of the film. If it is a low budget, homemade film a low costing camcorder will obviously be used where as if it is a Hollywood film it will use the best cameras and equipment.

Reasearching Skyfall

Skyfall is the twenty-third spy film in the James Bond Series, produced by Eon Productions and distributed by MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment. It features Daniel Craig's third performance as James Bond, and Javier Bardem as Raoul Silva, the film's villain. The film was directed by Sam Mendes and written by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. However due to the popularity of it, on the first couple days of release people would normally have to book their seat.

Trailer: YouTube
This is a screen grab of James Bond in action which I got from the trailer shown below. It is of Daniel Craig in his suit ready to fight.

This is the official trailer for Skyfall, which was released 3 months before the release of the actual movie. 2 months before this, a 1 minute teaser was released by Sony Pictures, which is also found on YouTube. Also shown on YouTube are some presenters view on Skyfall after visiting the set of Skyfall. For example AMC's Roth Cornet returned from Istanbul where she visited the set of the new James Bond film and she gives us a intake on how it was like.

Posters:

These are 2 pictures which i have taken of bus posters with Skyfall advertised on them. Many people use the bus as their main transport therefore they would see it and go watch it and also many people are outside so they would also see it and go watch it also.

This is a picture taken from a newspaper used in order to promote the film also. It used Sky to promote it and it uses it as an excuse to get people to buy sky and watch all the James Bonds films.

Facebook:

This is a screen shot of Skyfall's Facebook page. This again is another technique to promote their film and to gain popularity.

Synergy:

This is a song made for Skyfall, sang by Adele, a famous and talented British singer. They wanted to gain popularity for the film through Adele's popularity.

Red Carpet:

This is a picture taken of the actors in the movie at their red carpet.

This is a picture taken of X-Factor contestants on the red carpet of Skyfall. They have been used because X-Factor is a very popular British singing contest and many people watch it therefore if they attend the red carpet then Skyfall will be spread more.
